Pompeii with Mount Vesuvius in the background! |
Pompeii was destroyed in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Saint Januarius aka San Gennaro was the Bishop of Benevento (an area just outside of Naples).
The Roman Emperor Diocletian persecuted Christians for years, and San Gennaro was beheaded on September 19 in the year 305.
It is said right after San Gennaro's death, his blood started to ooze out of his body. To this day, three times a year in Italy there is a celebration for this sacred miracle.San Gennaro became a protector for the people of Naples from Mount Vesuvius.
A German poet once said, "A Neapolitan (people who come from the area around Naples, Italy) would certainly be a different creature if he didn't feel himself wedged between God and the Devil."
Well, my maternal grandparents were the Devil's advocate! They came from Benevento and settled in the United States in the early 1900's. My grandparents left a legacy of extreme abuse and total dysfunction. I spent the past twenty- years of my life undoing their evil ways!-"I forgive my grandparents and mother on this day 6/30/15 but it doesn't change the fact my grandfather was a tyrant and in turn made my mother a tyrant!"-Serena Jade
Have you ever been to the feast of San Gennaro in New York City?
Would you like to visit Pompeii, Italy?
Do you know any Neapolitans? Are they the Devil's advocate or God's friend?
