The mansion above is called Falaise meaning "cliff" in French, the castle overlooks the Long Island Sound (below).
Daniel Guggenheim bought Falaise in 1917 and gave his son Harry the estate as a wedding present in the year 1923.Harry and his wife Caroline would have a few years of happiness in their French styled eclectic house until their divorce.Harry married Alicia Patterson in 1939 and established Newsday, the Long Island's daily newspaper.
Harry Guggenheim raised and raced his own thoroughbreds.A Limestone stable was built on the grounds of Falaise. An avid horse racing fan, Harry was one of the people who founded the New York Racing Association!
